An ongoing series of untitled self portraits began in early 2013 by Olivia Themudo

Growing up, I developed a collection of comedic characters to navigate my social anxiety, creating a shield that allowed me to connect with others and express myself without fear. This inherent practice has evolved into my creative process, where I channel a pantheon of personas to explore different facets of my identity.

Through meticulous staging—from unique environments to specific hair, makeup, and clothing styling—I transform into each character. This act of embodying a persona gives me the courage to pose in ways that feel authentic, even when they are a departure from my own comfort and nature. This series is a representation of my personal experience, living and masking as an autistic person and the ways I am able to channel strength through my own daily artistic expression.
